STREETS AND ROADS
All city and county roads, except those on the state and federal highway system, are serviced
by the Division of Streets, Roads & Forestry. This includes:
- Pothole Repair in Lexington/Fayette County
- Snow Removal
- Street Sweeping
- Routine and Emergency Servicing of Storm Sewer Drains
- Intersection Curb Repair
- Sidewalk Handicap Ramp Installation
- The Maintenance of Various Bridges and Certain Creeks within the Urban Area
What Causes a Pothole?
Potholes are caused when the pavement or the material beneath it (called the base or subbase)
cannot support the weight of the traffic it carries. Two factors are always present in such a
failure -- water and traffic.
To Report a Pothole
To report a pothole on a city maintained street, please call Lexcall 3-1-1 or 425-2255.
To report a pothole on a state maintained road, please call (859) 246-2059 for the Lexington
State Highway Garage or (859) 246-2355, for the District #7 Kentucky Highway Office.
How Quickly Should I Expect a Pothole To Be Repaired?
During normal times, the Division of Streets, Roads & Forestry makes every effort to repair a pothole
that has been reported on our pothole hotline within 48 hours of the call. Obviously, that is
not always possible during periods of extreme weather or other emergencies.
Check out the Snow and Ice Control Plan.
