Because of the increased danger to the public by snow and ice on bridges, hills, and intersections, these are given special attention. Many of these are located on priority routes, so they are handled at the same time as general salting and plowing. At the beginning of the snowfall, small salt trucks are sent to treat bridges that are located in the downtown area, or adjacent to it. The crews check each bridge, hill, and intersection periodically in case snow or ice has built up again.
