The Lexington Day Treatment Center is a community based treatment program for youth ages of 12-18 who are residents of Fayette County. The Center, located at 1177 Red Mile Place, is operated by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, Division of Youth Services, in collaboration with the Department of Juvenile Justice and Fayette County Public Schools.

The Center offers a specialized treatment program with an educational component for male and female youth who have demonstrated difficulty functioning in their home school setting. With individualized treatment and adequate support services youth are provided an opportunity to remain in the community and experience success.

Referrals to the Center are accepted from a variety of sources including the Department of Juvenile Justice, all Social Services Agencies, school systems, both public and private, and parents or guardians. A Social History/ Needs Assessment document initiates a referral. This document must be completed accurately and include a copy of the Birth Certificate, Social Security Card and Insurance/Medical Card. Upon enrollment at the Center families are expected/required to fully participate and cooperate with the program. This includes attending and participating in an initial interview, Comprehensive Individual Treatment planning, 60 day reviews, Treatment Team Meetings and other planned activities.

CASA

The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lexington provides court appointed, trained, volunteer advocates to speak for children who through court action have been deemed abused and/or neglected. CASA volunteers act as another set of eyes and ears for the Judge. CASA works in cooperation with other agencies, monitors compliance with court orders, investigates and submits independent reports to the court with recommendations in the “best interest” of the child. Juvenile Probation Services

Juvenile Probation and Court Services conducts investigations and prepares pre-dispositional reports as ordered by the Fayette County District Court. Services include monitoring and supervising youth placed on probation by the Court, development and implementation of individualized treatment plans, drug screening, curfew monitoring and referral to community resources based on youth or family needs. Juvenile Probation also provides a home a home detention program and develops and facilitates other educational programs based on the needs of the youth being served. Youth and Family Services

Youth and Family Services provides casework and community service to Fayette County residents. The program is designed to support and strengthen family life, assist with family crisis and to prevent family breakdown. Services available include: assessments, crisis intervention, casework, parent and youth educational groups, assistance in locating emergency placements, information and referral and neighborhood community services.

Referrals are received from a variety of sources including parents/guardians, law enforcement, other social service agencies schools and the courts. Services must be requested by the custodial parent/guardian or referral/participation must have been ordered by the Court. The custodial parent/guardian must participate in all phases of service delivery.

Services are made available to some clients at neighborhood centers such as the Kenwick Youth Project, the Gainesway Community Empowerment Center, the Coleman House Project and West End Community Empowerment Project. For further information regarding Youth and Family Services call 246-4300.

The Community Empowerment Center serves residents in Southern Fayette County. The Center offers or coordinates numerous services and programs to respond to the needs of families. Some of the services and programs offered include:

  • Case Management – two Social Workers work on site providing services to families who are experiencing disruptions and to support and strengthen family life to prevent breakdown;
  • Homework Huddle – an after school program which assists elementary, middle and high school (2nd -12th grade) students with their homework and focus on academics;
  • Parent/ Community Meeting – a monthly meeting which brings agencies and residents together to discuss community improvement and resource information;
  • Saint Joseph Mobile Unit – a medical van from Saint Joseph is brought to the Solutions Center each Friday to provide medical services to individuals that do not have a medical provider;
  • Commodities for Senior Citizens – any senior citizen age 60 or above and meet income eligibility can register to receive nutritious commodity food once each month. For further information on these and other programs and services available at the Center call 271-8800.
    Coleman House Project

    The Coleman House Project was opened January 2007 and re-dedicated in honor of Grace Coleman; the first African-American licensed to practice Social Work in Fayette County. The Coleman House Project serves youth ages 11-17 and their families by providing substance abuse treatment and mental health services. Service delivery is accomplished through a collaborative of five community agencies providing service on site at the Coleman House. Participating agencies include: Youth and Family Services, Division of Youth Services; Teen POP, Bluegrass Regional MHMR Board Inc.; Chrysalis House Inc.; Family Counseling Services and The Nest.
