spacer SEWER USER FEES/RATES

All sanitary sewer user fees are based on water consumption as an approximation of sewer use into the facility. The consumption amount is provided by the supplying water service (Kentucky American Water Co.)and is based on water meter readings. Provision is made in each sewer user schedule for water not discharged to the sewer system, i.e. irrigation, pool filling, etc. Also, all sanitary sewer users are permitted to contract with Kentucky American Water Co. for a separate irrigation meter to supply water used in irrigation or other uses not discharged to the sewer system. This meter will not be subject to sewer user fees.

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government's rates schedule is broken into three tiers. Schedule A (Single Family Homes), Schedule B (Commercial, retail and industrial facilities) and Schedule C (multi-unit apartment, townhouse and condominium complexes, trailer parks and duplexes). Hotels, motels and boarding houses are not eligible for Schedule A or Schedule C rates.

Schedule A: Single family dwellings or multi-unit dwellings which are individually metered.

Schedule A users are charged at a rate of $1.78 per 100 cubic feet for the first 400 cubic feet of water used per month and then at a rate of $2.16 per cubic feet in excess of 400 cuft per month.

Spring/summer sewer user fee is charged on the lower of actual consumption or the previous fall/winter consumption average. This will allow for pool filling and landscape watering during spring/summer months, New customers with no fall/winter average are charged at a rate of 90 percent of consumption until the fall quarter begins.

Schedule B: All users not classified under Schedule A or C.

Schedule B users are charged at a rate of $2.16 per 100 cubic feet and may be charged for extra strength loadings of conventional pollutants as follows.

Parameter Extra strength Limit Surcharge Rate (per pound in excess of limit)
Biochemical Oxygen Demand 250 mg/l $0.389
Suspended Solids 250 mg/l $0.322
Ammonia 25 mg/l $0.977

The urban county government will permit schedule B users to install exclusion meters for the purpose of excluding from sewer user fees any water not returned to the sewer system.

Schedule C: Residential dwellings which are not individually metered, i.e. Apartment complexes, trailer parks, etc.

Schedule C users are charged at a rate of $1.78 per 100 cubic feet per residential unit per month for the first 400 cubic feet. This rate shall be allowed only upon receipt of a written request from the facility owner or resident manager. The written request shall specify total number of units and the average occupancy rate of these units. Submit requests to: LFUCG Division of Revenue, 200 E. Main St., Lexington, KY 40507, Telephone (859) 258-3364.

For amounts in excess of the 400 cubic feet per living unit per month or for all incoming water in the event a written request has not been received the rate shall be $2.16 per 100 cubic feet.

Schedule C users are billed at 97 percent of year round consumption to allow for the filling of swimming pools and landscape watering. In addition the urban county government will allow the installation of water meters to measure the amount of water consumed in cooling towers but not returned to the sewers system.
