spacer Design and Construction

The Design/Construction Section of the Division of Engineering manages many types of public works projects. This section performs in-house engineering studies, land surveys and provides technical expertise and consulting services to many other LFUCG divisions. With about 150 active street, bikeway, sidewalk and sanitary sewer projects at any time, the engineers in this section also oversee private engineering firms that have been hired to design major projects. All projects are designed to the community’s standards and must provide the best solutions for the tax dollars spent.

After the design work is completed it is the responsibility of the construction group to get the projects built. This section completes approximately 30 projects per year which may include construction or rehabilitation of sanitary sewers, stormwater facilities, roads and/or bridges.

Right-of-Way Management

On this site, you may be able to enter descriptions of work you propose to perform in the public rights-of-way. In order to use this site, you should have already familiarized yourself with LFUCG’s Ordinance No. 166-2002, Chapter 17C, the Public Right-of-Way Ordinance. You may apply for a Surface Cut Permit or an Installation Permit, or provide us notification of Annual General Permit work. The site will guide you through a series of pages on which you may enter the appropriate information.

Annual General Permit (AGP)

In order for you to use the Annual General Permit (AGP) pages, you must be a Registrant (as required by the ordinance), and you must have paid the fee associated with an Annual General Permit. The proposed work must match a type of work allowed under the AGP. Also, remember that any proposed work in a “High Density Area” requires a surface cut or installation permit. If you want to access the AGP pages, click here.

Surface Cut / Installation Cut Permits

You must apply for a surface cut or installation permit to perform any other type of work in public rights-of-way; that is, for work not allowed under an AGP. Generally, you must also submit (mail or fax) a plan or sketch of the proposed work. To apply for either type of permit, click here.

If you have questions about working in the rights-of-way, or about the permitting process, you may contact us by e-mail, or by calling Dan Kiser at 859-258-3410. If you need technical support or want to provide feedback related to this site, you may contact Computer Services.
