PUBLIC SAFETY

CODE ENFORCEMENT Inspects properties, sidewalks or any violation of Property Maintenance Code. Also deals with nuisance issues such as high weeds, trash, indoor furniture used or stored outdoors and junked vehicles.

COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS Detains people who are accused of committing crimes in Fayette County in its Detention Center on Old Frankfort Pike.

DEEM Responsible for environmental services, some emergency management and Fayette County’s disaster preparedness.

ENHANCED 9-1-1 Monitors both new and existing buildings for proper address usage. Also operates Lexington’s emergency communications system.

FIRE Extinguishes fires and operates the Emergency Medical Services. Sworn personnel are trained both as firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. Some are also paramedics.

POLICE Provides a number of public safety functions, including Neighborhood Watch programs. Also maintains reports of alleged criminal activity.
