Signs
Article 17 of the Zoning Ordinance sets forth sign regulations for the entire Urban
County.
The regulations are lengthy and complex, but the purpose can be briefly explained.
The Ordinance applies to all signs and affects their construction, alteration, location,
maintenance, and sometimes wording. It allows for legitimate display for all types of
businesses, but does not allow signage to detract from the overall esthetics of the
Urban County.
No sign, except where specifically exempted by the ordinance, is allowed
to be displayed, moved, or altered without a permit from the Division of Building Inspection.
Permit Applications are available on our site or in person from the Division of Building Inspection at 101 E. Vine St.,
Suite 210 during normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 p.m.
A site plan or
dimensioned building elevation, detailed sign information and written consent of the owner are
required to be submitted before the permit can be issued.
