From a weekend deck project to a full-scale addition, building permits are required
for almost all types of construction in Fayette County.
An An application for a
building permit is available for download on our site or can be picked up in person from the Division
of Building Inspection at 101 E. Vine St., Suite 210 during working hours from 8 to 5
Monday through Friday.
Plans must be on paper no smaller than 8 ½ by 11 and show
the building on the lot, distances to the front, side and rear property lines,
wall section, lumber framing sizes, and a floor plan. Sometimes, architects or e
ngineer’s certifications may be required.
The majority of permits can be processed
with little delay. Permit Fees are based on the square footage of the building,
with a minimum fee of $50.00.
Plans are reviewed for compliance with the building
code and all applicable ordinances. Inspections follow the permit through
the completion of the project.
