Frequently Asked Questions
For the Strategic Planning Program

  1. Is there a registered neighborhood association where I live and if so, who is the contact?
Answer: Please see the Planning Division website (LFUCG.com) or hyperlink to find the city directory of registered neighborhood organizations or if you have any questions, please contact Pat Wallace at 258 3260.

  2. How do I form a registered neighborhood association?
Answer: Please contact Rob Johnson at 258-3160. The application may also be accessed by clicking here.

  3. What are the boundaries of my registered neighborhood association?
Answer: LFUCG’s Geographic Information Systems has computer maps that can give you the current registered neighborhood boundary information. Please call 258 3386.

  4. What is the difference between a registered neighborhood association and a homeowners association (HOA)?
Answer: A registered neighborhood association is a voluntary association that has registered with the city as a group interested in planning projects and referrals for various noticing requirements. A homeowners association is a mandatory association that usually assesses a required fee for the care and upkeep of common facilities, such as landscaping, swimming pool, management costs, etc. Sometimes HOAs and registered neighborhoods groups are the same, but more often not. A third possibility is private neighborhood association that is not registered with the city, but not an HOA either.

  5. Why do I have to pay into a homeowners association?
Answer: It is a mandatory payment because it is an agreement between the buyer and seller of the property included within the HOA area. This type of provision requiring payment is usually found in the deed for the property in question.

  6. Can the city enforce deed restrictions, covenants, etc?
Answer: The city does not enforce private deed restrictions because they are a private agreement. Please consult your HOA representative, property manager or an attorney to learn more about possible legal remedies to enforce deed restrictions or similar private agreements.

  7. Where can I get answers about specific Current Planning projects or activities?
Answer: Please visit the Planning Division website at LFUCG.com or call 258-3160 for information.
