![]() The Central Sector has been the focus of a great deal of community interest in recent years. The area contains some of Lexington's oldest neighborhoods that are extremely diverse in uses and character. While the area shares many concerns, it is comprised of distinctly different neighborhoods, many of which contain vibrant neighborhood associations. In recent years, several of these neighborhood associations have come together to form the Central Sector Coalition to give voice for its desires for many forms of neighborhood improvement. The Central Sector Small Area Plan was born of a shared desire by the Central Sector Coalition and LFUCG to create a unified vision and strategy for the area that recognizes the unique character of each of its neighborhoods. The Central Sector Small Area Plan should provide direction for efforts at revitalization of existing residential and commercial uses, including re-designation of uses where appropriate; appropriate adaptive reuse and redevelopment efforts; affordable and market rate housing; increased employment and residential opportunities; accommodation of places of worship and other social institutions; appropriate urban design; and recognition of historic resources and other special interests of the area. To aid in crafting a small area plan, the government has hired Ratio Architects, Inc., a planning and design firm in Indianapolis. A steering committee of Central Sector residents and other neighborhood representatives will review and comment on consultant recommendations as well as provide direction. The steering committee will also disseminate information to the larger Central Sector population.

Meeting InformationPublic Input MeetingsThere have been two public input meetings for the Central Sector Small Area Plan. The first meeting was on June 10, 2008 at the Dunbar Community Center and the second was on August 28, 2008 at Central Library. These meetings provided an opportunity for citizens to express their concerns and desires for the Central Sector area and to comment on proposed vision and goals statements for the small area plan. Ratio expects to have a draft of the small area plan for public comment in January 2009. Please check back for future meeting dates To review materials from those meetings.
