Adult Summer Volleyball Sign-Ups — Registration is currently being accepted for the Parks & Recreation Adult Summer Volleyball League. This is a co-ed league with matches played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Kirklevington Park. Teams play a nine-game schedule followed by a post-season tournament. Registration is by teams only and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Returning teams may register from May 5—9 and new teams may register from May 12—30. The cost to participate is $100 per team. Team Managers may call the Athletics Office at 288-2919 for more information or to request a registration form.

Sun Bowl Organizational Meeting (7 pm, Monday, May 5, Dunbar Community Center)—Individuals interested in participating in the Parks & Recreation Sun Bowl Basketball League are encouraged to attend a meeting at 7 pm on Monday, May 5, at the Dunbar Community Center, 545 N. Upper Street. This league, which is for youth ages 9—13, will play games on Saturday mornings at Douglass Park. The cost is $125 per team. For more information, call 288-2955.

Junior Dirt Bowl Organizational Meeting (7 pm, Tuesday, May 6, Dunbar Community Center)—Those interested in participating in the Junior Dirt Bowl should attend a meeting at 7 pm on Tuesday, May 6, at the Dunbar Community, 545 N. Upper Street. This league is for youth ages 13—16 and games will be played Monday through Thursday at Douglass Park. The cost is $125 per team. For additional information, call 288-2955.

Men’s Dirt Bowl Organizational Meeting (7 pm, Thursday, May 8, Dunbar Community Center)—Individuals who are interested in participating in the Men’s Dirt Bowl should attend an Organizational Meeting at 7 pm on Thursday, May 8, at the Dunbar Community Center, 545 N. Upper Street. This league is open to high school, college and adult players. (College athletes are allowed to participate in this summer league provided they have a letter of authorization from their athletic director.) The league will play Sunday through Thursday at Douglass Park and the cost to participate is $225 per team. For more information, call 288-2955.

Morning Bird Walk (8—11 am, Saturday, May 10, Raven Run)—See over 30 species of birds on our early morning bird walk, many of which can only be seen this time of the year as they migrate through Kentucky. Learn to identify birds by sight and sound during the program. Registration is required. Please arrive at the sanctuary at 8 am and park at the gate which will close after the program begins. Some binoculars can be provided for use during the program. Please call 272-6105 for availability and registration.

Bluegrass Classic Stockdog Trials (7 am—7 pm, May 14—18, Masterson Station Park)—The famous Bluegrass Classic Stockdog Trials will take place on May 14—18 at Masterson Station Park. This competition, nearly identical to the one in the popular movie “Babe,” is one of the longest-running and most prestigious trials in the country, typically drawing top handlers from across the United States. People of all ages will be in awe of the working relationship between the border collie and their handler. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating and pack a picnic lunch or purchase concessions which will be sold on-site. This event is FREE and appropriate for all ages.
