Special Recreation

Therapeutic Recreation

The goal of the therapeutic recreation program is to provide a wide variety of high quality recreation, leisure and outdoor opportunities to enhance the physical, social and emotional well-being for citizens with disabilities in our community. The programs and classes have been designed to meet the needs and interests of individuals with a variety of disabilities, as well as promote participation in general recreation programs.

Lexington’s Division of Parks and Recreation is committed to provide recreation and leisure access for all persons with disabilities. This includes well-maintained, accessible recreation areas and accommodations for persons with disabilities so they may participate in general recreation programs.

    Adult & Youth Combined Bowling League
    Recreation bowling, socialization and having fun are the emphasis in this league. The program is open to individuals and bowlers will be grouped according to their skill level. The cost to participate is $4.50 per week. The Adult & Youth Combined Bowling League will take place from 12 – 2 pm every Saturday from February 9 – April 19 at the Eastland Bowling Lanes. This is a self-directed program.

    Wheelchair Tennis Clinics
    Individuals with limited mobility are invited to participate in the wheelchair tennis clinics and programs. These programs are offered in the spring and summer.

    Spring “Get Out Your Bling” Dance
    Mark your calendar and make plans to join us for our annual Spring Dance which will take place from 5 – 9 pm on Friday, April 11, at the Tates Creek Recreation Center. Be sure to wear your finest “Bling” but if you don’t have any, we’ll provide it. There will be music, dancing and plenty of fun. The cost is $4 per person, payable at the door. The dance is open to individuals with or without disabilities who are 13 years of age and older

    Therapeutic Recreation Fun Camp
    The Division of Parks and Recreation offers a two week camp for youth ages 5 – 21 who have disabilities. Please refer to the summer camps section of this website for more information.
