Our Director
Jerry Hancock is the director of the Division of Parks and Recreation.
“I’m pleased to be able to serve the citizens of Fayette County in this important role.
Given the recent findings of our park and recreation citizen survey, my priorities will be to plan and build more walking,
hiking and biking trails in Lexington, provide online program registration and rental reservations through our Web site
and work closely with the mayor’s office to establish park parity throughout Lexington. We provide highly valued, significant services to the people and I will work to make them better.”
As the former Enterprise Section superintendent, Hancock managed the golf, aquatics, rentals and concession operations of the division,
including six golf courses, nine swimming pools, park and ball field concession stands and hundreds of rentals each year. His previous
experience includes real estate management and development, association management, sales and marketing and management roles with
Fortune 500 companies.
“The mayor and council have been very supportive of parks and recreation initiatives in this year’s budget and we’re ready to meet
the challenge of getting these projects planned, constructed and opened for citizens’ recreation. Many of them have been on the
back-burner for several years and we look forward to getting them finished.”
Hancock is 60 years old and a U.S. Navy veteran.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Tennessee, and a master’s degree in marketing from Indiana University. He is single and lives in Lexington.
