Proposed Storm Water Fee
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as part of a court settlement, is requiring Lexington to implement a storm water fee because of long-term violations of the federal Clean Water Act. The EPA sued the city of Lexington in 2006 because of its failure to maintain its storm and sanitary sewers.
This fee, as proposed, will raise a total of approximately $16 million/year that will be used to clean up our environment. The proposed fee is based on the amount of non-absorbent, or “impervious,” surface on a given property (for example the area under roof or a parking lot).
