LexVan Rideshare Program

In an aim to reduce air pollution, traffic congestion, and gasoline consumption, the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government established the Lexington Bluegrass Mobility Office. The Lexington Bluegrass Mobility Office manages a commuter vanpool program called LexVan.

The LexVans are 15 passenger vans that are leased primarily to groups of people who vanpool to work. Vanpool groups are created by matching people who share the same approximate home locations, work locations, and work hours. This is done through the use of ridesharing computer software. All of the operating costs, fuel, and insurance is paid by the monthly fare of each rider. A few of the riders serve as drivers who ride free when they drive the vanpool.

Mobility Logo There are currently LexVans commuting to Lexington from Central Kentucky communities of Berea, Richmond, Nicholasville, Paris and Irvine. Also, four LexVans commute from Lexington to Frankfort. Additional incentives such as the GuaranteedRide Home program make this an attractive long distance commuter option.

Anyone who is interested in carpooling, vanpooling, biking, telecommuting or riding transit can call the Mobility Office at (859) 233-POOL (7665) or e-mail rdaman@lfucg.com. If you would like to fill out an application to carpool or vanpool, please use the online application at: http://www.lfucg.com/Mobility/rideshare.asp.
