WRITTEN EXAMINATION INFORMATION...

The Written Examinations will be given to those individuals who meet the minimum requirements for the position. This includes having a background of a law-abiding citizen, age 21 by filing deadline date, and HS diploma or GED.

The written examinations for Recruit Firefighter / Paramedic are designed to measure the knowledge, abilities, aptitudes and innate problem-solving ability an individual needs to possess to be successful in the job. The written examinations are multiple choice tests and are utilized to determine a group of applicants meeting or exceeding necessary thresholds. Those meeting these requirements are eligible to continue in the testing process. Each written examination shall have a passing threshold based on validated norms. Candidates must obtain a minimal score of 70% (seventy percent) on the written examination to proceed to the physical agility test. The written test for the position of Recruit Firefighter / Paramedic, will be administered at the Fire Training Center, 1375 Old Frankfort Pike, Lexington, KY (map to Training Center)


TEST INFORMATION

You must take and pass the written test if you wish to be considered in this process. There is a NON-REQUIRED test guide available for this examination called the STANDARD EDITION - NATIONAL FIREFIGHTER SELECTION INVENTORY (NFSI) STUDY GUIDE. This study guide will provide you with a better understanding of the nature and format of questions that will appear on the NFSI. The study guide will provide definitions of each area, sample questions and inform you of rules and general test-taking strategies and instructions for completing the exam answer sheet.

You may obtain this test guide via any of the following methods: 1) check one out, for no more than 5 (five) hours at a time, from the Human Resources Department in the Government Center Building at 200 East Main Street in Lexington, 2) order/purchase one ($5.95+ tax + s&h) from www.iosolutions.org, or 3) call to order/purchase one from IO Solutions directly at 1-800-343-HIRE (4473).

A more in-depth NON-REQUIRED study guide called ENHANCED EDITION - NFSI STUDY GUIDE WITH PRACTICE EXAM is also available. This study guide is not available at LFUCG for check out and must be purchased at your own expense ($14.95+ tax + s&h) via 1-800-343-HIRE (4473) or www.iosolutions.org,.

The Enhanced Edition not only provides you with a better understanding of the nature and format of questions that will appear on the NFSI, it contains a complete 100 question practice examination to help you prepare for taking the test.

Any purchases from IO Solutions can be sent priority mail (within 3-5 business days) or for additional cost can be sent 2 day or overnight via FedEx. Any books purchased individually are yours to keep at your own expense and those checked out must be returned to LFUCG. Again, neither study guide is a prerequisite for taking the written examination.
