Specialized Training
A variety of special operations training also occurs at the Fire Training Center. Our own Special Operations Unit conducts High-Angle, Rope, Trench, Confined Space and related training operations there. Our Hazardous Materials Unit also conducts some Technician and Entry level training evolutions there from time to time.
In addition, the Fire Training Center is used extensively each year during Kentucky State Fire School.
Maze, smoke and search & rescue techniques are frequently run there, as well as confined space, high-angle & rope rescue and hazardous materials training. Firefighters from all over the Commonwealth have trained here, and still do when they call or stop by to arrange using the facility at a time convenient to both jurisdictions. But that's only the tip of the iceberg. Law enforcement has found our facility to be convenient, useful, appropriately remote and available. Our own Division of Police Emergency Response Unit trains here, as do the FBI and the Kentucky State Police Swat Teams. The University of Kentucky Police Department uses the facilities from time to time. ![]() Other LFUCG Divisions use the classroom facilities or the large Bay for classes or functions requiring a large meeting space. The LFUCG Training & Development Office occasionally uses the facility for CPR classes. You may be able to use the facility for your function, too, provided you plan far enough ahead and your event fits the busy schedule we keep! |
