1. The operational budget for leaf collection this year is $537,360. 2. Before 2004, this operation was a Division of Property Management function. The operation and staff responsible for the labor was moved to the Division of Parks and Recreation. This is the fourth leaf collection operation under Parks. 3. Crews will begin training on Oct. 29, by raking and collecting leaves in medians such as on Richmond Road. 4. Residential service will begin on Nov. 5, 2007. 5. All households in the solid waste service area will get leaf collection service. 6. 35 seasonal laborers will be hired to supplement the Civil Service Staff. 7. Crews use eleven truck/vacuum units. 8. The service area is divided into four zones. Each zone will collected for one week in November and one week in December. This Web site allows you to find out when leaf collection will be on your street. Zone 1 is in the southern part of the city and will be collected on the week of November 5 through November 9 and December 3 through December 7. Zone 2 is in the eastern part of the city and will be collected on the week of November 12 through November 16 and December 10 through December 14. Zone 3 is in the northern part of the city and will be collected on the week of November 19 through November 21 and December 17 through December 21.

Zone 4 is in the western part of the city and will be collected on the week of November 26 through November 30 and December 26 through December 28 . There is a fifth area of very dense leaf accumulation. This is an area near Richmond Road. The area is divided into four small sub-sections. Each sub-section has been assigned a week for collection in November and December. 9. The target date for completion is the end of the year. The division will keep a few trucks in service, however, for necessary collection into the January 2008. 10. Every street in the service area will be covered a minimum of two times. Many streets are covered more times. For example, last year crews collected leaves on Henry Clay Boulevard four times. 11. Last year leaf collection received a records yield of over 1,600 tons. That was more than twice the previous year. With the drought situation of the 2007 summer we do not expect near the leaf yield. 12. The leaves are taken to a concrete pad at the Haley Pike landfill. The leaves are composted and taken by Solid Waste.
