2008 Historic Preservation Awards presented
A rescued cottage, a renovated New York-style deli and a stone house reputed to have been built by an African-American stone mason
in the early 20th Century received three of the top awards for historic preservation in Lexington.

Mayor plans ‘Mayor’s Night In’ this Thursday
Mayor Jim Newberry is planning a “Mayor’s Night In” from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 15, in his office at the Government Center, 200 E. Main St.
Joining the mayor will be the city’s top administrative officials.
Founders' Day offers various events.
Founders' Day at McConnell Springs
Take a walk back through history and enjoy the beauty of where Lexington was first founded
by attending the free Founders’ Day Celebration at McConnell Springs on Saturday, May 17.
The event, which runs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., will feature re-enactors
in period costumes, music, colonial crafts and tools and other items from the era.
There will also be children’s activities, exhibits and tours of the park.

Bike Lexington Rolls This Weekend
Lexington’s premier cycling event, Bike Lexington, will take place this weekend on Friday, May 16 through
Sunday, May 18. The three-day event includes amateur bike races, a leisure ride and some fun bike races for all. Learn more about

Fire to use new bicycle medics at events
Lexington Fire Chief Robert Hendricks, far left, looks at a medical bag on one of two new mountain bicycles purchased

readied the vehicles Tuesday for their duty as bike medics. The fire division plans to use the bikes for the first time this
month during Bike Lexington activities.

Enforcement of street tree ordinance begins
With the goal of making streets and sidewalks safer for motorists and pedestrians, arborists from the city’s Division of Streets,
Roads & Forestry can now issue citations to property owners whose street trees create a safety hazard.
