Garbage: Residents living in the appropriate tax districts receive UCG waste collection services once a week. A 95-gallon “Herbie” roll cart is provided for garbage. To find out if your property has city garbage service, call 425-2255 or 3-1-1.
Garbage service: Call to learn more about how to change to UCG garbage and recycling services.
Recycled material: The UCG recycles many items, including newspaper and other paper, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles and jugs and some glass products. A “Rosie” recycling cart is provided. Call to request a Rosie or to obtain information on items to recycle.
Yard waste: When separated from regular garbage and recyclable items, grass clippings and other yard waste are recycled in a “Lenny” roll cart. Residents can also use 30-gallon paper bags for recycling yard waste. Bags can be picked up free from most grocers, hardware and discount stores with city-provided coupons. Call to join the yard waste program.
Missed pick-up: If any of your Waste Management carts are not emptied or bulky items not picked up, or if an appliance or tires are not collected when scheduled, call 425-2255 or 3-1-1 to report the missed pick-up.
Appliances: To dispose of large appliances, call to schedule a special pick-up. Appliances may be dropped off at Environmental Recycling, 3899 Winchester Road. Empty propane tanks may be dropped off free at this location. The drop-off service is free to all Fayette County citizens.
Special arrangements: Residents physically unable to roll a cart to the curb can apply for backyard collection by having a Solid Waste form completed by their doctor. Call to obtain a form.
Christmas tree recycling: Waste Management and the
Division of Streets & Roads collect and recycle Christmas trees throughout Fayette County. The trees are ground into mulch by the LFUCG and the mulch is available for free to Fayette County
citizens.
Loan-a-box: For large clean-up jobs, you can request a loan-a-box for overnight or over the weekend at a cost of $38 for disposal of the contents. The box is dropped off and picked up by Waste Management. The loan-a-box service is available to all Fayette County residents.
Tires: To dispose of tires, call for a special pickup. Residents are limited to four tires off the rim in one pickup.
Dead animals in roadway: Call 425-2255 to request that a small dead animal be removed from the roadway or curb. Please note, Waste Management employees are not
permitted on private property.
Carpet disposal: Carpets must be cut into 4’ lengths and rolled and tied to a diameter of not more than 6”. Citizens are urged to ask their contractors to dispose of old carpet.
Construction debris: Construction debris and brush are accepted at the Haley Road landfill from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Call the weigh master at 299-5715 for directions.
Recycling at apartments: Residents of apartment complexes are urged to talk to their apartment managers about recycling. Full recycling services are offered to apartment complexes that volunteer.
Recyclables drop-off: Residents with private garbage service can still take recyclable materials, including yard waste and appliances, free to approved drop-off sites. Call LexCall at 425-2255 or 3-1-1 for drop-off locations.
Mulch giveaway: Yard waste is recycled into mulch and a portion of it is available on a first-come, first-served basis on the second and third Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon, in the months of April, July and October at the LFUCG Recycling Center, at Manchester St. and Thompson Road.
NiCad batteries: Commonly used for laptop computers, emergency lighting, cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, camcorders, security and alarm systems, NiCad batteries are rechargeable and can be recycled. C, D, AA and AAA batteries can be placed in your Herbie. Drop NiCad batteries off in the lobby of the Government Center, 200 E. Main Street.
Free dump day: The Urban County Government has entered a contract with Bluegrass Waste Alliance Transfer Station to offer residents a free dump time. On the third Saturday of July, October, April, and January customers can drop off a pickup truck load of household waste and four tires off the rims free of charge. No applliances will be accepted. The transfer station is located at 1503 Old Frankfort Pike. Drop-off times are from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
