First elected in November 2004, Council Member Jay McChord is serving his second term.
In addition to representing the 9th District, Jay serves on the Planning and the Intergovernmental committees, the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the Environmental Commission.
A third-generation Lexingtonian, McChord graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1991 where he was a three-year letter man as the University’s
“Wildcat” Mascot.
McChord has spent the past 13 years in the financial services industry in various capacities. He is a lifelong resident of the Clays Mill corridor in the 9th District.
Currently the Lafayette High School wrestling coach, McChord has also served as the Beaumont Middle School assistant track coach. He’s an executive board member for the United Way of the Bluegrass, a member of the Advisory Board for the Volunteers of America, and a member of the Lexington Young Professionals Association (LYPA). Jay is an alumnus of the Sigma Pi fraternity. Jay and his family are all members of Southland Christian Church. McChord and his wife, Julie, have one daughter, Riley.
