The Division of Environmental and Emergency Management (DEEM) is responsible for environmental services, emergency management and disaster preparedness.

Hazards: To report a chemical spill or illegal dumping of wastes or to report an environmental contamination issue, call 258-3784.

Emergency management: Want to learn more about how to protect yourself in severe weather; home disaster planning; creating a neighborhood emergency network; workplace violence; general hazard planning; shelter-in-place; or family disaster kits? Call 258-3784.

Emergency Operations Center: The center helps coordinate Lexington’s overall response and recovery during major storms or disasters.

Household hazardous wastes: Learn the proper disposal of household hazardous wastes such as paint, gas, oil, mercury, etc., by calling LexCall at 425-2255.

Environmental issues: You can also call DEEM for information about illegal dumping, air quality, and impacts on creeks.

Outdoor warning sirens: In case of an emergency such as severe weather or a chemical spill, many of Lexington’s parks are equipped with outdoor warning sirens. These sirens are publicly tested once a month. To find the siren nearest you, call LexCall at 3-1-1.
