Records Center and Archives, 1306 Versailles Road
Official records of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government: The Council Clerk’s Office is responsible for the administration and preservation of the official records, which includes city ordinances, resolutions, Council
meeting minutes, deeds, contracts, Ethics Commission records, City Employees
Pension Fund meeting minutes and more. Citizens can view documents or
request copies by contacting the Council Clerk’s Office. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
Archival records: Citizens interested in obtaining local government
documents (dating back to the 1790s) can visit the Council Clerk’s Office on the second floor of the Government Center. Also contact the office for copies of videotapes of the official Council meetings.
Council meeting records: The Council Clerk’s Office prepares the Council meeting work dockets and minutes and has information available that can be researched.
Ethics Commission: Staff performs work for the Ethics Commission, and is responsible for the administration and preservation of the official records, including financial interest statements, complaints, advisory opinions, and preparation of the meeting minutes.
Legal publishings: The office oversees the newspaper publishing of ordinances and resolutions passed by the Council, as well as legal notices for special meetings, etc.
Code of Ordinances Book: The office maintains, updates, and distributes the City Code Book that includes all city laws.
Records Center and Archives: The office administers the new Records Center and Archives located at 1306 Versailles Road, which includes managing approximately 8,000 records boxes from the UCG divisons and departments and some local agencies.
The staff works with all of the divisions and departments for the transmittal and destruction of records boxes, as well as record requests. A computer inventory of all of the boxes is maintained and updated by the staff, which is also responsible for the implementation of the Records Retention Schedule in
accordance with state regulations.
