HELP WITH MAPS
We hope that you will find the MapCafe'
an easy to use and reliable resource. Familiarizing
yourself with the buttons below will help you
explore the maps contained in the GIS database.
For best viewing results, maximize your browser window.
This is the GEOCODE button, push it if you would like to search for an address.
The hand icon is used to PAN around the map. Left click the mouse and hold the
button to drag the map in any direction. You can scroll the map in this way to
get from place to place.
The magnifying glass buttons allow you to ZOOM the map either in or out. For example,
select the ZOOM IN (+) then left click the mouse. Your map perspective has now changed.
If you hold in the left mouse button on the map and draw a box around a particular area
of interest and then release the button, your map view will be only the area you have
chosen. The ZOOM OUT (-) button works the same way.
The information or IDENTIFY icon allows you to view any information in the database
pertaining to the feature of interest. Select this button and click on a street to
find out, for example, its name and speed limit.
The binoculars are a very useful tool as they represent the FIND command. Selecting
this icon will allow you to search the map database for any text that matches what
you type in the box. For example, on the Council map, type in Robert Jefferson. Your
result will be in blue and you simply select it to ZOOM to the corresponding council
district.
This button allows you to go back between map extents (it will take you back one step.)
This button will allow you to see the entire map.
This is the PRINT button, push it to print your map.
This is the LEGEND button, push it to turn the map legend on/off.
Frames: You can customize the way the MapCafe' appears by simply grabbing the
frame bars and resizing them to suit your preferences.
