This Office is responsible for helping LFUCG divisions comply with environmental laws and regulations, spearheading sustainability initiatives, providing guidance on environmental policy, and helping to educate LFUCG employees and the public on environmental issues. There are currently 6 employees assigned to this Office.

Some of the initiatives we are currently involved in include management and closure of LFUCG landfills, removal of underground petroleum storage tanks from LFUCG sites, remediation of petroleum contamination at LFUCG sites, facilitating disposal of household hazardous waste, surveying divisions for environmental compliance, tracking LFUCG compliance efforts and environmental initiatives, promoting recycling, coordinating LFUCG Community Right to Know reporting efforts, coordinating LFUCG involvement in the KY EXCEL voluntary environmental leadership program, green purchasing initiatives, pollution prevention initiatives, waste minimization initiatives, writing green articles for internal and external publications, conducting GTV3 interviews on environmental issues, sinkhole protection, environmental planning, and coordinating LFUCG climate change protection efforts.

Division of Environmental Policy personnel currently fill many roles including serving as the Fayette County Solid Waste Coordinator, chairing the internal LFUCG Energy Management Team, chairing the Bluegrass Partnership for a Green Community Reduce Reuse and Recycle Team and the Bluegrass Partnership Education and Outreach Team, serving on the Environmental Commission, Tree Board, Friends of McConnell Springs, and several other teams, boards and committees.
