Fayette County is proud to participate in the Great American Cleanup each spring. The Great American Cleanup™ is the nation's largest annual community improvement program. Since 1985, Keep America Beautiful has been leading the program through its affiliate network and other participating organizations. Every spring, volunteers and community leaders nationwide are mobilized to tackle eyesores and build a sense of pride and ownership of their local community environments.
LFUCG divisions joined with neighborhood groups to collect trash and debris during the 2007 annual Great American Cleanup last spring. Over 3,900 volunteers removed approximately 200 tons of garbage, debris and trash. This included 1,005 waste tires, 100 batteries and 62 abandoned vehicles.
