The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is proud to be a part of the ENERGY STAR® Change a Light, Change the World campaign.
The ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World campaign is a national challenge sponsored by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, to encourage Americans to switch to
light bulbs and fixtures that have earned the government’s ENERGY STAR for energy efficiency.
As part of this national movement, the LFUCG has volunteered to encourage people who live or
work in Fayette County to pledge to replace at least one incandescent bulb or fixture at home with
one that has earned the government’s ENERGY STAR label as a first step to preserving our energy
resources and environment. With lighting accounting for about 20 percent of the typical home’s electricity
use, switching to energy-efficient options can save energy and money, reduce greenhouse gases that
contribute to global warming, and protect the environment for future generations. According to EPA Energy
Star estimates, if residents in all 116,000 households in Fayette County pledged to change one light, this
could save over 32 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity and prevent over 50 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.
The LFUCG is asking individuals to make a simple, yet meaningful commitment by taking the online
ENERGY STAR Change a Light pledge to replace at least one incandescent bulb with an ENERGY STAR
labeled bulb or fixture. To be part of Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s efforts, please at:
