Elected in November 2004, Councilmember Jay McChord is working on many projects which will benefit residents in the 9th District.
In his second term representing the 9th District, Jay serves on the Planning Committee, Budget and Finance Committee, the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and the Environmental Commission.
A third-generation Lexingtonian, McChord graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1991, where he was a three-year letter man at the university as its “Wildcat” mascot.
McChord has spent the past 14 years in the financial services industry in various capacities. He is a lifelong resident of the Clays Mill corridor in the 9th District, and attended Clays Mill Elementary School, Jessie Clark Middle School and Lafayette High School, as well as the University of Kentucky
Jay has also been appointed to serve on the World Equestrian Games Advisory Board, in addition to creating an initiative called the “Healthway Initiative,” which is an effort to build a healthier city through trails systems and new recreational facilities.
McChord volunteers his time as a wrestling coach at Lafayette High School, United Way of the Bluegrass, Volunteers of America, Lexington Young Professionals Association, in addition to being an alumnus of the Sigma Pi fraternity. Jay and his family are all members of Southland Christian Church. He and his wife, Julie, have one daughter, Riley.
