Building permits are required for all in-ground swimming pools in the Urban County.

Pools are regulated under Section 419 of the Kentucky Building Code, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Zoning Ordinance, and other requirements as appropriate. Generally those persons wishing to construct a swimming pool must submit a completed application showing the location of the pool on the lot, a construction drawing of the pool, and a Health Department approval.

(Commercial pools will have additional requirements) At that time a plan review is conducted to make sure the pool meets all applicable requirements. Inspections follow the pool construction to its completion.
