Bike Summit a Success
and Major Step Forward
Lexington is poised to move forward with bike initiatives thanks to the support of over 200 people
that attended the Bike Summit last Friday including Mayor Newberry, the Urban County Council,
University of Kentucky officials and dozens of other agencies and advocates. We will translate the
enthusiasm generated at the Bike Summit into action. Stay tuned for a summary of the Bike
Summit and our action plan for moving forward with the Summit recommendations.
The bike summit brought together citizens, government,
businesses and community leaders to talk about moving forward together
to become the most bike-friendly city in Kentucky and a world class city
for bicycling. Attendees built new partnerships and an action plan to create a more livable city with:
- Real transportation options
- Health & recreation opportunities
- Strong businesses & housing markets
- Good air & environmental quality
- Regional bicycle tourism
The Bike Summit was brought to you by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government
with support from the University of Kentucky
and YMCA
