This Week in Lexington's Parks

Evening at Ashland is a great way to celebrate your Labor Day Weekend. Held at 6 pm on Saturday, August 30, on the grounds of the Henry Clay Estate, this concert will feature the 18-piece DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra. Guests are invited to bring their blankets and a picnic dinner and enjoy an evening of great jazz music. Evening at Ashland is free; limited parking is available for $5 on the grounds of the Estate. In the event of rain, Evening at Ashland will be held on Monday, September 1, at the same time.

The Southland Association and Lexington Parks & Recreation are once again joining together to offer a Bluegrass music concert series this summer. The Southland Jamboree will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday, September 2, at Collins Bowling Lanes (205 Southland Drive) and will feature Blue Tyes of Grass. This concert series will take place on Tuesday evenings through September 9.

The 7th Annual Dog Paddle promises to be a canine’s delight! Bring your dog out to the Woodland Aquatic Center anytime from 9 am – 3 pm on Saturday, September 6, for a dip in the pool. (Sorry, humans will not be allowed to swim.) The cost is $10 per dog with a limit of two people and $5 per person after the limit. All dogs must have a 2006, 2007 or 2008 rabies tag or proof of vaccination. In case of rain, this event will be held at the same time on Sunday, September 7.

McConnell Springs has many wildflowers in bloom during the summer months. To learn more about the flowers, including their folklore, join the staff for their Late Summer Wildflower Program at 10 am on Saturday, September 6. Don’t forget to bring your cameras to this free program!

Join the staff of Raven Run at 1 pm on Sunday, September 7, and explore an 18th Century homestead and learn about the landscape of the Bluegrass as it appeared over 200 years ago. The History of Raven Run program, which is free, is geared for all age groups and includes a mile long hike.

The Division of Parks & Recreation welcomes and encourages the participation of individuals with disabilities. To request a disability accommodation, please contact Kristy Stambaugh at (859) 288-2928 at least two weeks prior to the program start date.
