Accumulated Unused Sick Leave Members who retire based on age and service are eligible to purchase service credit for unused sick leave accumulated while contributing to the fund. The maximum amount of sick time that can be purchased is 720 hours for members employed by the Division of Police and 1,008 hours for members employed by the Division of Fire. Accumulated sick time may be purchased when the member applies for retirement and is initiated by marking the appropriate category on the retirement application. The purchase of the accumulated sick leave is calculated by applying the employee contribution rate to the amount the member receives from accumulated sick leave upon retirement. The LFUCG matches the contribution at the employer contribution rate. The value of the unused, accumulated sick leave is based on the daily salary rate calculated from the member's last annual salary. Payment for unused sick leave is also incorporated into the annual salary of the final year of service. |
